Yes, a user has to sign up for the forums and for the Classmates database. The reason behind this is that they are two separate databases and while (to get a little technical) there could have been a join statement to sign up for each I wanted the Classmates database as portable as possible for distribution. I could have wrote my own forum/bulletin board code but with so many other great packages I didn't see it very practical.
